Notes: Logis de la Villatte (or Villatte), unchanged from the sixteenth century is located in Ansac-sur-Vienne in the department of Charente in France.François de Pontbriand, Breton soldier born in Saint-Malo, appointed by Mayor Louis XI of Limoges in 1473 married in 1475 with Mathive Formier which brings the important barony with a steward with high right and low justice. Mathive had lost his father, Jehan Formier and inherited the fief.
François de Pontbriand, baron Villatte be ambassador to Italy then superintendent of Chambord Castle works, governor of Blois and Francis I of Butler. He died in 1521. The barony through his daughter Antoinette Marin Montchenu then by her eldest girls Marie-Salome to Claude de Chateauvieux count of Confolens.
The home of the Villatte will not be their residence or that of their successors and in 1786 will be sold to Admiral Alexis Poute then sold as national property.
The home of the Villatte was listed historic monument by order of 8 March 1991 and the chapel with its coffered ceiling is in the west wing of the house.
