Notes: Château des ducs de La Trémoille is located in Thouars in the Deux-Sèvres department. Strategically located on a natural promontory overlooking a meander of the Thouet, it has a main building, a courtyard, an orangery, a chapel and stables. The central main building with one floor and an attic floor with dormers is framed by two tallest one storey pavilions. The first built, the south pavilion that was originally attached to the then shaved castle is trapezoidal. A central dome houses the staircase balustrade which is marble from Laval. The home is preceded by a courtyard surrounded by a portico gallery making terrace accessible from the first floor apartments. Another gallery joins the chapel. The foundations are local hard stone "Vrines stone" or Dapple, the freestone walls, slate and blankets. The garden was destroyed in the nineteenth century and the fact remains that the orangery which have been the model to that of Versailles. A ticket to Le Nôtre certifies that participated in their creation.
