Notes: Château d'Ancenis is a castle built in 984 on the banks of the Loire in the city of Ancenis, Loire-Atlantique.
It is the subject of a classification as historical monuments since November 2, 1977. This protection concerns all the fortifications, and the facades and roofs of the racks (Renaissance house, old chapel and the house called "Marie Fouquet ").
It was, originally, a castle mound, that is to say a high wooden tower on a mound. He possessed rudimentary defenses, namely a gap, a simple fence with an enclosure to house the population. From its position, it quickly became an ideal place to watch the river, putting a military and economic control.
The medieval fortress (fifteenth century) has a single access system: a drawbridge covered arranged baffle and an angled vaulted gallery with a harrow.
