Built from 1903 to 1905 by the banker family Varin-Bernier, the castle is characteristic of historicism and eclecticism in vogue at that time. The exterior architecture and interior design mix all styles, from Renaissance to Art Nouveau, combined with modern comfort. The building is surrounded by an English garden where rare species are found. Became city property in 1946, the castle knows different uses and has since 1996 housed the Library Jean Jeukens.
It is the subject of a registration as a historic monument since December 24, 1980.
