Notes: Château de Frontenay is a private fortress of the seventeenth century in Frontenay in the Jura. The castle is in perfect condition, open to tourism summer and seminars throughout the year. It is the subject of a registration as a historic monument since November 8, 1991.The first mention of the existence of the Castle of Frontenay date of 1109, when the first lords of Frontenay were related to the counts of Burgundy.In the fourteenth century, Jean Chalon [Which?], Lord of Arlay, built a huge keep flanked by towers to protect the salt route.In 1446, Lord Louis II of Chalon-Arlay (Chalon-Arlay) tells the castle to one of his squires, Gauthier Fallerans that transmits to his descendants to this day (500 years of family continuity)Enlargements were made to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
