Notes: The Château de Rochecotte is a late 18th century residence in the village of Saint-Patrice, near Langeais, in Indre-et-Loire. It has been registered for historic monuments since May 22, 1948.
It has undergone several successive re-developments, due to its various owners.
The relative of one of them, Boni de Castellane, describes it in these terms: "The great Louis XVI castle-espalier half-way up the hill overlooking the Loire valley-is not lacking in charm or originality. It is similar to an Italian villa, with superimposed terraces, from where the view extends over blue and gray horizons, landscapes of primitive paintings. "
"I have a real passion for Rochecotte, it is to me, it is the most beautiful sight and the most beautiful country in the world, finally it is an air that makes me live slightly and then I arrange, I go back , I embellish, I appropriate ... I took the country life to the letter ".
(Letter from the Duchess of Dino to de Barante, July 5, 1828, quoted by Jean-Luc Péchinot in "The Duchess of Dino, Talleyrand's Last Love", La Touraine Magazine, No. 55, July 1995, 58 ).
