Castle Gizeux is located in the town of Gizeux, the borders of the former province of Anjou, and is part of the Loire castles.
The castle stands in the Regional Natural Park Loire-Anjou-Touraine, the confluence of two departments: Indre-et-Loire and Maine-et-Loire.
Its facades are spread over 250 meters long, making it the longest castle of the Touraine Angevine.Castle Gizeux depended on the Seneschal of Saumur and the former province of Anjou.Castle Gizeux formerly located in Anjouin the Seneschal of Saumur.
The Lordship of Gizeux belonged to the family of the poet Joachim du Bellay from 1315 to 1660. The castle then became property of several marquis of Contades Gizeux family.
In 1789, during the French Revolution, the Marquis Louis Gabriel de Contades (1759-1825) opposing the revolutionaries to flee the soil of France and found refuge in Santo Domingo. He will come Gizeux in 1801.
