Built on the site of an ancient Gallo-romaine1 villa, the current castle probably succeeded an ancient castle that guarded in this strategic location of Salembre Valley, the intersection of five roads leading to Chantérac, Saint-Aquilin Saint-Astier, Neuvic and Saint-Vincent-de-Connezac. It is a listed building since 1991. Château de Saint-Germain-du-Salembre is in the center-west of the Dordogne, at the intersection of county roads 41 and 104, east of the town of Saint -Germain du Salembre. This is private property.
