Notes: The castle of Poyanne is located on the commune of the same name, in the French department of Landes. It is classified as a Historic Monument by Order of 21 October 1957.In 1206, the lords of Poyanne built a strong house on the site of an ancient Roman camp. At the beginning of the seventeenth century, it was replaced by the present, more comfortable castle designed by the architect Gratien de Lerm. During the Second World War, the archives of the Belgian State were kept in the castle of Poyanne. The community of Benedictine nuns left the castle of Poyanne in 1985 and put it up for sale. The Landes General Council acquired it in the spring of 1988.
