Notes: Château de Mauriac is a French château located in the municipality of Douzillac in the Dordogne, in the Aquitaine region. It is registered as historical monuments. The current castle, built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, follows a medieval lair itself established on the site of an ancient Gallo-Roman. Back from Italy, Montaigne halted at the castle in 1581. The Mauriac Castle is west of the Dordogne, two kilometers east-northeast of the village of Douzillac. It overlooks the railway line Coutras - Tulle and Isle, directly below the dam Mauriac who, having operated a mill provided energy to a furniture factory converted now into a small hydroelectric plant. It is a private property which is authorized tour of the gardens and terrace. The castle is located on the eastern edge of a park where two corner towers remain in the southwest and northwest.
