Notes: The castle of Orion is a castle of the seventeenth century, located in the village of Orion, in the department of Pyrénées Atlantiques. The castle of Orion has changed over the centuries in the heart of the Bearn countryside. He has preserved all his memories intact through his furniture, portraits of successive owners, his correspondence, his costumes. It is now open to the public.
Originally, in the seventeenth century, the castle was a secular abbey, owned by the family Casamajor, until the French Revolution.
It was at the beginning of the nineteenth century that the Larrouy family, having enriched itself in the Bayonne ham business, bought it and made some adjustments.
During this century, the heiress Henriette Larrouy married the doctor. It was to their daughter-in-law, Madeleine Reclus, that the poet Henri de Régnier, a friend of André Gide, dedicated a poem in 1918
"I love your house which bears a star name, this Orion that illuminates your eyes ..."
Paul Reclus's brothers were welcomed to Orion, Elisée Reclus, a famous anarchist, and geographer, Armand Reclus, engineer and naval officer who helped build the Panama Canal.
Jean Labbé, the last descendant, married in the early 1950s, Marguerite Bérard, daughter of Léon Bérard, former Minister of Education and Academician. Marguerite Labbé still lives at the Château.
