The Counts of Hunebourg, probably from the Counts of Dabo-Metz, are cited in the early twelfth in documents that point to the existence of the castle and the first two counts and Theodoric Folmar. The lords of Hunebourg who have the castle until 1225 solicitors are the abbeys of Honau and Neuwiller.
The building is the subject of a registration as a historic monument since June 22, 2007. From its 425 meters high, from its lovely flowered park, Hunebourg the site offers an unexpected view, not only the massive Schneeberg and Donon but also on the plain of Alsace (at Bouxwiller and Ingwiller). The site still has a remarkable dungeon, unfortunately unreachable today (for reasons of security and lack of financial means to restore the place). Hikers are welcome to Hunebourg: paying consumption on site (at the bar of the castle), hikers will have the right to settle in the beautiful park and picnic in peace. Moreover, it can contemplate a superb panorama (especially towards the East). It is even possible to take a cold buffet (at the current price of 10 €). Hunebourg The site has 30 rooms in total, spread over two separate buildings: the main building is located to the right of the castle entrance, while the annex building, secondary him is on the left.
